Practice Owner – Dr Megan Hughes
Dr. Megan Hughes joined the Spring Branch Veterinary team in July 2015 and she purchased the hospital in July 2016. Dr. Hughes was born and raised in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Vermont in 2004 and she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University in 2008.
Dr. Hughes moved to the San Antonio area in 2008. She currently lives in New Braunfels with her husband, Kris, and their daughter, Aubrey. They have 3 dogs: Frances, Harvey, and Ginger, 3 cats: Penelope, Snickers, and Twinkie, 2 horses named Red and Biscuit, one donkey named Waffles, 7 goats, and 25 chickens. In her spare time Dr. Hughes enjoys spending time with her family and pets, horseback riding, gardening, jogging, and traveling. She also volunteers for the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area providing veterinary care for homeless pets. Dr. Hughes is passionate about assisting local animal shelters for animals in need, as well as spay/neuter programs to reduce the overpopulation of homeless pets. Dr. Hughes as well as the entire team at Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital, is committed to providing nothing less than the gold standard of veterinary medicine to all of our patients. Her goal is for pets to live healthier, happier, and longer lives with their families.
Dr Jessica C. Baas
Dr Baas (pronounced “Boss”) joined the practice in May of 2017. Dr. Baas spent her childhood in Texas and has always wanted to return since moving to North Louisiana in her early years. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Louisiana Tech University in 2006, then went on to get her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from St. George’s University with her clinical rotations at Auburn University. Dr. Baas came to the practice with 5 years of experience in small animal practice and emergency medicine from Shreveport, Louisiana. She enjoys small animal practice and she has a special interest in veterinary dentistry. Dr. Baas currently lives in New Braunfels. Dr. Baas has 3 dogs and one cat named Tina, Mandy Lou Who, Abby, and Little Miss. In her spare time, Dr. Baas enjoys spending time with her pets, kayaking, painting, and exploring Texas. Dr Baas has a passion for healing as well as preventive veterinary medicine that exemplifies our hospital’s mission.
Dr Virginia Nell Duncan
Dr Virginia Nell Duncan is a native of San Antonio. She has been a part of the practice since 2004. She wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as she can remember. She grew up pretending to doctor her family’s goats, horses, and peacocks. Dr. Virginia Nell graduated from Texas A & M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. She is married to Dr Robert Duncan and they have 4 boys, 2 dogs, and 1 cat. Dr Duncan has been on the board of directors for the San Antonio Zoo since 2008. She enjoys missionary trips with her church, Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, to Piedras Negras, Mexico. She also enjoys hiking, swimming, and other outdoor activities.
Dr Robert Duncan
Dr Robert Duncan grew up in Gainesville, Texas. He has been a part of the practice since 2007. He had many pets growing up including hamsters, fish, hermit crabs, turtles, dogs, and cats. He graduated from Texas A & M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. He met his wife, Virginia Nell Duncan, in veterinary school. Drs Robert and Virginia Nell Duncan have 4 boys. Dr Robert enjoys spending time with his family, playing and watching sports, and Bible Study Fellowship. He is currently working on building a treehouse for his boys.
Dr Kelsey Smith
Dr. Smith joined the practice in May 2019. She was born and raised in Georgetown, Texas where from an early age become passionate about veterinary medicine from her father, who is also a veterinarian.
She was a student-athlete for 2 years at Oklahoma Christian University before transferring to Texas A&M University to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She stayed at Texas A&M to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2016. Dr. Smith comes to the practice with 3 years previous experience in small animal private practices in the central Texas area. Dr. Smith is a member of the AVMA and TVMA. She has special interests in preventative medicine, ultrasound and internal medicine.
Dr. Smith currently lives in Boerne, Texas and has 2 dogs named Bentley and Brody. In her spare time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her husband, pets and traveling. Dr. Smith focuses on providing the best-individualized care for each patient to provide a longer, healthier life.
Practice Manager – Gayle
Gayle joined our practice in April of 2011 as a Customer Care Specialist and was promoted to the Practice Manager position in March of 2017. She came to us with over 20 years of veterinary front office experience. Gayle always welcomes our clients and patients with comfort and care. She currently resides in the New Braunfels area with her husband, Ed and their 2 dogs, Spencer and Violet Rose as well as her three cats, Horatio, Humphrey and Callie.
Administrative Assistant and Veterinary Assistant – Rebecca
Rebecca has been with Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital since May 2013 and started out as one of our Pet Care Attendants. Rebecca loves her job because she enjoys caring for and getting to know the pets and enjoys expanding her knowledge in the veterinary field. In her spare time, she enjoys time with her own pets, a Dachshund named Maggie, a Shepherd mix named Nena and a terrier mix named Penny.
Veterinary Assistant – Ashley
Ashley joined the practice as a pet care attendant in March of 2017 and she was promoted to a veterinary assistant in May of 2017. Ashley was born and raised in Puerto Rico where she graduated with an associates degree in veterinary technology. She moved to the San Antonio area in 2014 and has been working in the veterinary field ever since. She has one schnauzer named Micahela. Ashley looks forward to meeting your furry family members!
Veterinary Technician – Vanessa
Vanessa joined SBVH in November of 2018. She came to us with 13 years of experience in veterinary medicine. Vanessa started working in 2006 as a veterinary assistant and has worked her way up to a technician. She attended the veterinary technician program at Palo Alto College. She is married and has a son and a daughter. Her pets are two Pitbulls named Nala and Cinco. Vanessa likes to spend her free time outdoors hiking and camping. She looks forward to helping your pets stay healthy.
Customer Care Specialist – Sandra
Sandra (Sandy) is one of our Customer Care Specialist and has been with Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital since August 2011. She was raised in the mountains of Virginia where she spent time on her grandparents’ farm. She transferred to Houston, Texas several years ago for her position with Texaco Research. After many years in accounting, she decided to follow her roots and her love of animals which brought her to Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital. Now she feels that she’s down home on the farm again getting to know our clients and their pets.
Customer Care Specialist – Carrie
Carrie is one of our Customer Care Specialist and has been with Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital since October 2010 and a client since 2000. Carrie is pictured with 2 of her 6 dogs, Bonnie & Clyde. They were her first 2 foster dog failures. Carrie jokes that her foster mom ‘stats’ are still good though because she has only kept 4 out the over 30 dogs that she and her husband, Jim have fostered. Rounding out her 4-legged family is Bell, Bosco, Chica & Maggie.
Customer Care Specialist – Lanie
Lanie is one of our Customer Care Specialist and has been with Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital since April 2011. She comes to us with over 28 years’ front office experience working in the dental field. She enjoys getting to know our clients and their 4-legged family.
Lanie was raised in Denver Colorado and moved to Texas in 1993. She currently lives in Spring Branch with her husband, Lyle and their 4 dogs, Sir Lord Sydney, Noelani, a rescue from Hurricane Katrina, Indy and Frankie O Blue Eyes. They also have a cat named Kiki. Lanie and her husband enjoy traveling and fishing in their spare time.
Customer Care Specialist – Amber
Amber joined SBVH in November of 2018. She came to us with over 10 years of customer service experience in the medical/dental fields. Her family moved from the Austin area to the beautiful Hill Country in 2012. She currently lives in Spring Branch with her Husband, Art, who is an engineering manager, as well as their youngest son, Austin. They also have two young adult children, Aaron, who will graduate this year from GWU, and Alyssa, who attends Texas State. They have adopted two furbabies, a 7-year-old terrier named Scrappy aka “little man”, and a new playful kitten, Abigail. Her family enjoys the outdoors and live music. Amber looks forward to meeting your pets and keeping them healthy and happy!
Pet Care Attendant – Lynette
Lynette rejoined the SBVH team in August of 2017. She was born and raised in the Hill Country. Animals have always been a part of Lynette’s life and she loves working at a veterinary hospital. She has 5 dogs named Diesel, Tyson, Bella, and Isabella; one cat named Sally, and she houses a horse named Hollywood. Lynette loves working with dogs and cats and she looks forward to getting to know your pets!
Pet Care Attendant – Betty
Betty joined the SBVH team in November of 2017. Betty grew up in Chicago and moved to San Antonio in 1992. She has lived in the Hill Country ever since. Horses and dogs have always been a big part of Betty’s life. She is the proud mom of 3 rescue dogs, Brewster, Gunter, and Lucy. She looks forward to getting to know your pets!
Pet Care Attendant – Ashley
Ashley joined the SBVH team in July of 2018. She has love animals her whole life. Ashley has lived in Spring Branch for 16 years. She loves spending her time caring for and loving pets. She looks forward to caring for your furry family members!
Groomer – Lisa
Lisa has been professionally grooming at Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital since 2003. She was born and raised here, in Spring Branch, TX. Having always been around many pets, she is sure to develop a comfortable and natural relationship with your 4-legged family members.
