Practice Owner – Dr Megan Hughes
Dr. Megan Hughes joined the Spring Branch Veterinary team in July 2015 and she purchased the hospital in July 2016. Dr. Hughes was born and raised in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Vermont in 2004 and she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University in 2008.
Dr. Hughes moved to the San Antonio area in 2008. She currently lives in New Braunfels with her husband, Kris, and their daughter, Aubrey. They have a dog named Ginger, cats named Snickers and Whiskey, 3 horses, 2 donkeys, 7 goats, and 30 chickens. Dr. Hughes enjoys spending time with her family and pets, and her favorite hobby is horseback riding. Dr. Hughes as well as the entire team at Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital, is committed to providing nothing less than the gold standard of veterinary medicine to all of our patients. Her goal is for pets to live healthier, happier, and longer lives with their families. Dr Hughes is also Fear Free certified and a member of the AVMA.
Dr Jessica C. Baas
Dr Baas (pronounced “Boss”) joined the practice in May of 2017. Dr. Baas spent her childhood in Texas and has always wanted to return since moving to North Louisiana in her early years. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Louisiana Tech University in 2006, then went on to get her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from St. George’s University with her clinical rotations at Auburn University. Dr. Baas came to the practice with 5 years of experience in small animal practice and emergency medicine from Shreveport, Louisiana. She enjoys small animal practice and she has a special interest in veterinary dentistry. Dr. Baas currently lives in Canyon Lake. Dr. Baas has 3 dogs and one cat named Tina, Mandy Lou Who, Abby, and Little Miss. In her spare time, Dr. Baas enjoys spending time with her pets, kayaking, painting, and exploring Texas. Dr Baas has a passion for healing as well as preventive veterinary medicine that exemplifies our hospital’s mission. She is Fear Free certified and a member of the AVMA.
Dr Kelsey Smith
Dr. Smith joined the practice in May 2019. She was born and raised in Georgetown, Texas where from an early age become passionate about veterinary medicine from her father, who is also a veterinarian.
She was a student-athlete for 2 years at Oklahoma Christian University before transferring to Texas A&M University to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She stayed at Texas A&M to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2016. Dr. Smith is a member of the AVMA, TVMA and is Fear Free certified. She has special interests in preventative care, internal medicine and end of life/hospice care.
Dr. Smith currently lives in Boerne, Texas with her Husband and 2-year-old son. She has 2 dogs named Bentley and Brody. In her spare time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her family, pets and traveling. Dr. Smith focuses on providing the best-individualized care for each patient to provide a longer, healthier life.
Dr Virginia Nell Duncan
Dr Virginia Nell Duncan is a native of San Antonio. She has been a part of the practice since 2004. She wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as she can remember. She grew up pretending to doctor her family’s goats, horses, and peacocks. Dr. Virginia Nell graduated from Texas A & M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. She is married to Dr Robert Duncan and they have 4 boys, 2 dogs, and 1 cat. Dr Duncan enjoys missionary trips with her church, Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, to Piedras Negras, Mexico. She also enjoys hiking, swimming, and other outdoor activities.
Practice Manager – Gayle
Gayle joined our practice in April of 2011 as a Customer Care Specialist and was promoted to the Practice Manager position in March of 2017. She came to us with over 20 years of veterinary front office experience. Gayle always welcomes our clients and patients with comfort and care. She currently resides in the New Braunfels area with her husband, Ed and their 4 dogs, Spencer, a poodle mix, Violet Rose a shih Tzu mix, and 2 Great Pyrenees Willow Grace and Marti Lynn as well as her cat Humphrey.
Lead Veterinary Assistant – Rebecca
Rebecca has been with Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital since May of 2013 and started out as one of our Pet Care Attendants. Rebecca loves her job because she enjoys caring for and getting to know the pets. She enjoys expanding her knowledge in the veterinary field. In her spare time, she enjoys time with her own pets, a mix named Red, a Shepherd mix named Nena and a Chihuahua Mix named Finn.
Veterinary Assistant – Ashley
Ashley joined the practice as a pet care attendant in March of 2017 and she was promoted to a veterinary assistant in May of 2017. Ashley was born and raised in Puerto Rico where she graduated with an associates degree in veterinary technology. She moved to the San Antonio area in 2014 and has been working in the veterinary field ever since. She has one schnauzer named Micahela. Ashley looks forward to meeting your furry family members!
Veterinary Assistant – Vanessa
Vanessa joined SBVH in November of 2018. She came to us with 13 years of experience in veterinary medicine. Vanessa started working in 2006 as a veterinary assistant and has worked her way up to a technician. She attended the veterinary technician program at Palo Alto College. She is married and has two sons and a daughter. She has a Pitbull named Cinco. Vanessa likes to spend her free time outdoors hiking and camping. She looks forward to helping your pets stay healthy.
Veterinary Assistant – Ashley
Ashley joined the SBVH team in July of 2018. She was promoted to a veterinary assistant in July of 2019. She has loved animals her whole life. Ashley has lived in Spring Branch for 16 years. She loves spending her time caring for and loving pets. When she isn’t working Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband Wyatt and their pets, cat named Janis and 2 dogs Merlin, Shih Tzu Mix and Sammy a Pug Mix. She looks forward to caring for your furry family members!
Veterinary Assistant – Lizzy
Lizzy was born in Michigan but she got to Texas as fast as she could and has been a proud Texan ever since! She has spent the majority her life in San Antonio, but just recently moved to Spring Branch in summer of 2021 and is loving every minute of it. Lizzy has worked in the veterinary field for six years now, the first five years having been a tech assistant/kennel tech. She got to try her hand at “tech-ing” with us November 2020 and is currently taking classes to receive her associate’s degree in a veterinary technician certification. Lizzy and her husband, Sean have a three-year old son named Levi, and two Blue Heeler mixes named Buddy & Birdie.
Veterinary Technician – Deangela
Deangela was raised in South Carolina. She started as a vet tech assistant in 2005 and worked her way up to being a licensed veterinary technician. She graduated with an associates degree in veterinary technology from Penn Foster. She moved to the San Antonio area in 2019. She is married with 2 sons, a grandson, 2 dogs and 2 cats. She is always willing to learn and increase her medical knowledge. She wants to help keep pets as happy and healthy for as long as possible.
Lead Customer Care Specialist – Anne Marie
Anne Marie joined the Spring Branch Veterinary team in January of 2021. She loves making sure our clients and their pets feel welcome and at home in the clinic. She resides in Blanco her 3 dogs, Pita, Edgar, and Francis; and her cat, Mr. Beastie. In her spare time she is an avid gardener and raises many varieties of succulents and cactus out in the hill country.
Customer Care Specialist – Lanie
Lanie is one of our Customer Care Specialist and has been with Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital since April 2011. She comes to us with over 28 years’ front office experience working in the dental field. She enjoys getting to know our clients and their 4-legged family.
Lanie was raised in Denver Colorado and moved to Texas in 1993. She currently lives in Spring Branch with her husband, Lyle and their 4 dogs, Sir Lord Sydney, Noelani, a rescue from Hurricane Katrina, Indy and Frankie O Blue Eyes. They also have a cat named Kiki. Lanie and her husband enjoy traveling and fishing in their spare time.
Customer Care Specialist – Lynette
Lynette rejoined the SBVH team in August of 2017. She was born and raised in the Hill Country. Animals have always been a part of Lynette’s life and she loves working at a veterinary hospital. She has 5 dogs named Diesel, Tyson, Bella, and Isabella; one cat named Sally, and she houses a horse named Hollywood. Lynette loves working with dogs and cats and she looks forward to getting to know your pets!
Customer Care Specialist – Lori
Lori started with Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital in December of 2021. She enjoys living on the shore at Canyon Lake with her Chihuahua Tatum and her cat Nori. She was born in San Antonio and bas been a lifelong Texan. Lori has been in Customer Service for years and enjoys meeting people and their pets.
Pet Care Attendant – Betty
Betty joined the SBVH team in November of 2017. Betty grew up in Chicago and moved to San Antonio in 1992. She has lived in the Hill Country ever since. Horses and dogs have always been a big part of Betty’s life. She is the proud mom of 3 rescue dogs, Brewster, Gunter, and Lucy. She looks forward to getting to know your pets!
Pet Care Attendant – Emily
Emily joined the SBVH team in June of 2021. She has loved animals her whole life. Emily has lived in the Texas Hill Country for almost 20 years. She loves spending her time caring for and loving pets. When she isn’t working she enjoys spending time with her husband Niko and their pets. She currently have 20 different types of birds, and 1 ball python. She looks forward to caring for your furry family members!
Pet Care Attendant – Alyson
Alyson joined SBVH in July of 2021, she has always cared and loved animals. She was born and raised in spring branch. She has a 4 year old son named Grayson, and one dog named Waylon. She looks forward in caring for your furry family members.
